All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sandy Heintzelman sheintz@iserv.net April 3, 2018, 7:59 am Lowell Ledger, 31 Oct 1935 Mrs. Katherine Sweet, 84, who had lived in Kent County nearly all of her life, passed away Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Cilley, of Keene. Mrs. Sweet, whose maiden name was Katherine Delilah McEwen, was born in Montcalm county June 14, 1851. At the age of three she moved with her parents, Daniel and Harriet McEwen, to Bowne Tp., and they located on what is now known as the Charles Dygert farm. She attended school at the old Stone school house and also attended the Lowell high school. At the age of 18, she married George W. Lind, the son of a neighbor. The young couple settled on a farm close by their parents. Here their six children were born; William E., of El Paso, Tex., Daniel W., now deceased; Maggie May (Mrs. Cilley) of Keene, Elizabeth H. (Mrs. Covert) of Pasadena, James J. of Keene and Jane Isabel (Mrs. Howard) of Pasadena. Mr. Lind passed away in 1904. In October, 1906, Mrs. Lind was married to E. P. Sweet of South Lowell and, at his death in 1917, she left the farm and since had resided in Lowell where she enjoyed the society of her friends and lived an active life until the first of October when she was stricken with what proved to be her last illness. She passed away October 28 at the home of Mrs. Cilley. Besides the five children, those left to mourn their loss include thirteen grandchildren and two brothers, E. A. McEwen of Traverse City and P. J. McEwen of Kalamazoo. Mrs. Sweet was a member of the Baptist church of Lowell, of the Greene Circle of the M. E. Church and of the W. R. C. Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at two o’clock at the Lowell Baptist church. Rev. A. J. Hoolsema is the Clergyman. Interment in the South Boston Cemetery. Mrs. Sweet made the arrangements for these services before she died, selecting the minister’s text and requesting that her grandsons act as pallbearers.
