L. O. RESIDENT 16 YEARS. PASSED AWAY MONDAY
                          -------------
WILLIAM SWEITZER, PIONEER RESIDENT OF COMMUNITY, QUIET AND UNASSUMING BUT A LOYAL
AND 
USEFUL CITIZEN.
   After a lingering illness of about a year William Sweitzer passed away at his
home on Sixth avenue, Monday.  
Mr. Sweitzer's illness was a sort of creeping paralysis and made him nearly,
helpless for some time.  He was 
faithfully cared for by his wife with the assistance of his daughters.
   Mr. Sweitzer came to Michigan about 1865 when this part of the country was almost
a wilderness.  He was 
an industrious, frugal man and helped to turn the wooded land into productive
acreage.  Until 1918 he with his 
family lived on a farm east of Lake Odessa.  Then he moved to Lake Odessa where he
had proved a loyal 
citizen.
   He united with the Methodist church here where he has served as an official
member.  The funeral was held 
from that church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by The Colonial undertakers of Grand
Rapids with whom 
his grandson Clare Pickens is connected.  Rev. Leon W. Manning, the pastor,
officiated.  Burial was at 
Lakeside cemetery.
                                                         OBITUARY
   William Henry Sweitzer was born in Altica, Seneca county, Ohio.  September 17,
1863, and departed this life 
December 24, 1934, aged 71 years, three months and seven days.
   At the age of two years the family came to Michigan and settled upon the farm
where he lived until he 
moved to Lake Odessa.
   He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Griffin, November 20, 1889. To this union
were born two children.  
Mrs. Luna Pickens of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Evelyn Chapin of Detroit.
   Early in life he gave his heart to God and united with the United Brethren church
of Woodbury.  Upon 
coming to Lake Odessa in 1918, he joined the Methodist church where he has been an
active member until his 
recent illness.
   Besides the widow and two daughters he is survived by three grandsons, and two
sisters, Mrs. Sophia 
Snyder of Union City and Mr. Ella Haddix of Spring Lake.
