Deforest A. Swift, 89, of Lake Odessa, died Friday, May 15, 1998 at Pennock 
Hospital in Hastings.  He was born Dec. 31, 1908 in Sebewaing the son of Claude 
and Maurine (Adams) Swift.  He married Arlene I. Swift in May 1942.  He owned 
and operated the Swift Flower Shop for several years.  He was a member of 
Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Eastern Star, and was a life member of the VFW, and 
American Legion.

He is survived by two sons, Allen (Linda) Swift of Lake Odessa, Ned (Kathy) 
Swift of Lowell; three grandchildren, Matthew, Suzanne, and Rachel Swift; and 
several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene on Jan. 2, 1998; grandson, Tom 
Swift; brothers, Frank W. and Raymond Swift; and sister Dorothy Swift Gill.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 at the Koops Funeral 
Chapel in Lake Odessa with Rev. Ward Pierce officiating with interment in 
Lakeside Cemetery.  Visitation was held Sunday with another scheduled from 2 to 
4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 18 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be 
made to Swifty’s P.L.A.C.E. Play Area.
