LAKE ODESSA- Deforest Allen Swift, age 62, of Lake Odessa, passed away March 
20, 2006.

He was born June 4, 1943 in Edmore, the son of Deforest Adams and Arlene 
(Bennett) Swift. 


He married Linda Smentkowski September 1967 in Newaygo.

He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He managed Fates Family Fare from 
1964 to 1973. Deforest and Linda have owned Swift Flower Shop since 1980.

He was employed by the federal government as a helicopter tech for 24 years 
retiring in 1997.

He was a past councilman for the Village of Lake Odessa for over 25 years, 
member of the Lake Odessa Fair Board for 25 years and a member of the Saranac 
American Legion.

Deforest is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Linda Swift of Lake 
Odessa; son Matthew and Audree Swift of Lowell; brother, Ned and Kathy Swift of 
Lowell; grandchildren, Morgan and Mayson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Swift, in 1989.

Memorial services were held Friday, March 24, 2006 at Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia with Rev. Ned Swift officiating.
