Sentinel-Std. - Thursday, July 17, 1980

Clarksville - Mrs. Bernice N. Swiger, 50, of 10338 Portland Road, 
Clarksville, died Tuesday at home.

She was born on December 30, 1929, in Berlin Township, the daughter of 
Howard and Sable (Pickney) Bowen.

She graduated from Saranac High School  in 1948. She was married to Jay 
Swiger on Sept. 16, 1950, in Clarksville.

She was a lifelong resident of the Saranac-Clarksville area.

She was employed by Michigan Bell from 1948-1950.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Stuart of Lake Odessa; three 
daughters, Mrs. Scott (Marsha) Hubble of Saranac, Mrs. Rick (Lori) Raiser of 
Lowell and Mary at home; her mother, Mrs. Dewitt (Sable) Kent of Saranac; 
three brothers, Everett and Emery Bowen of Belding and Donald Bowen of 
Plainwell; three sisters, Mrs. Manley (Winona) Nummer of Ionia, Mrs. Bruce 
(Elsie) Moore of Saranac and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Harding of Kalamazoo; and 
four grandchildren.


One sister, Eula Sullivan, preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1970.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Galilee Baptist Church in Saranac 
with the Rev. James Frank officiating.

Burial will be in Saranac Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Research. Envelopes are available at the 
Lake Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 7 to 
8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Arrangements are by the Pickens-Koops Funeral Home.
