Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Mon. Sept. 27, 1963

PORTLAND- Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Swiler, 98, lifelong Portland 
resident who died Saturday night at Inbody nursing home in Ionia, will be 
Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Neller funeral home.

She was born April 14, 1867 in Roxand township, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel 
Saxton. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alta Dole of Lansing, and a son, 
Earl Swiler of Portland, three grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a half-
brother, Ferris Saxton of Clinton, N.J.

Mrs. Swiler was the oldest living member of Portland Methodist church and was 
an honorary member of Women’s Relief Corps. She was a member of Danby Literary 
club, Danby Cemetery association and North Eagle Cemetery association. 

The Rev. Robert Treat will officiate and burial will be at North Eagle Cemetery.

Bearers will be; Bert Neller, Edward Hillis, Leon Pohl and Sam Burman.
