He was born on November 26, 1970 in Hastings, MI, the son of Wayne Swiler and Nancy Frederickson Swiler. Rodney is a 1989 graduate of Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa where he spent his youth. He moved to Alaska after graduating from high school. Later he moved to Washington where he remained the rest of his life. Rodney was a finish carpenter and used his creative skills to construct beautiful homes in the state of Washington. Rodney loved animals and would often rescue strays, providing a loving home for them. Growing up he was a 4-H member, FFA member, and wrestled and played football in school. Rodney was a great mechanic, and had a knack for figuring out how to fix things when no one else knew how to do it. Rodney was a giving soul. He loved to spend time with friends and enjoyed the good times spent with them. He loved having family and friends visit and would go out of his way to show them around. Rodney enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Rodney is survived by his parents, Wayne (Pam) Swiler and Nancy (Frederickson) Swiler; a brother, Kevin (Karla) Swiler; a step-sister, Amanda (Den Braber) Lake; nieces, Jessica Diaz, Jenelle Swiler, and Julia Swiler. He leaves to grieve his loss many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends, including his dear beloved girlfriend Leah Hopper who stood by his side through his journey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Lakewood United Methodist Church located on M-50 in Lake Odessa. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. Memoriasl in lieu of flowers may be made to Manna’s Market, Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary, or the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa Emergency Benevolence Fund.
