Dec. 24, 2016 WAYNE ARLOW SWILER Lake Odessa, MI - Wayne Arlow Swiler, age 71, of Lake Odessa, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at the family farm on Ainsworth road after a lengthy journey with renal Cell carcinoma. He was born in Portland, Ionia County, on New Year's Day, January 1, 1945, to Harold and Marjorie (Aves) Swiler. He moved to lake Odessa in 1951 with his parents. He is a graduate of Lakewood High School class of 1964. On July 20, 1990, he married Pamela Kay warner in Ionia. Together they raised two sons and a daughter. Wayne worked as a farmer his entire life. He managed his family dairy farm until he went to work at Herbruck's Poultry ranch from which he retired. Wayne loved nothing more than spending time with classmates, other friends and family especially if the topic of Canadian fishing was involved. He enjoyed sharing a meal and looking over maps of possible place to travel to. Wayne was especially known for his compassion and generosity. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a warm, loving smile. He was the go-to fix it man for anyone who needed something repaired. Wayne's position as the vice chairman of Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board of directors was on which he proudly served for 39 years. He started his career with the board of Directors for Wolverine Power Cooperative in April of 2007. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of lake Odessa, the Lakewood Area Lions Club, First Families of Ionia county Society and the Ionia County Genealogical Society He was extremely dedicated to any task given him. Wayne's military experience included proudly serving in the Army National Guard, discharging in 1971. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of who he spent 32 years with; a son, Kevin (Karl) Swiler; a daughter, Amanda (DenBraber) Lake; three granddaughters, Jessica Diaz, Jenelle Swiler and Julia Swiler; one great-grandson, Waylyn Shepard; three sisters, Linda (Jon) Fox, Carol (Jerry) Engle, Doris Sutton, and special furry friend, his pal, Johnny. Wayne has a host of friends who will mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Kassner Swiler; mother, Marjorie Marie Swiler, and son, Rodney Allen Swiler. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 26, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Lakewood united Methodist Church, lake Odessa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, 11 AM, at the Lakewood United Methodist Church, lake Odessa. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, lake Odessa. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Lakewood Area lions Club, Ionia County Humane Society, Lakewood Area ministerial Association, First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa Mission Fund or another non-profit charity of choice.
