The service will be at 11:00 AM with a luncheon following. Marjorie's daughter, Linda, and husband, Jon have returned from Alaska to be able to attend the memorial service. Marjorie Swiler, aged 83, of Lake Odessa, went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 16, 2006 at Woodlawn Meadows in Hastings. The was born the youngest daughter of Arlow and Mildred (Leak) Aves on July 9, 1923 on the former Frank Bulling farm east of Woodland. Marjorie graduated in 1940 from the Lake Odessa High School at the age of 16. She worked at the Lake Odessa Canning Company, AC Spark Plug Co. in Ionia, and after her children were married, at the cafeteria of the Lakewood High School. On March 25, 1944, at the home of her parents, she was united in marriage with Harold Kassner Swiler. They lived on a farm near Portland, and in 1951 purchased a farm near Lake Odessa where they lived for many years. They had five children: Wayne Arlow (Pam) Swiler of Lake Odessa, Linda Louise (Jonathan) Fox of Soldotna, Alaska, Carol Lynn (Jerry) Engle of Woodland and Doris Jean Sutton of Farwell. Lorraine died at birth on February 10, 1946. Harold preceded his wife in death on January 22, 2001. Marjorie was a life-long farm wife. She always had a large garden, was a good cook, and was famous for her prize winning homemade pies. Marjorie and Harold enjoyed taking camping trips to many states, especially to Montana to visit relatives, and to Alaska to visit Linda's family. They also traveled to Europe with a Farm Bureau group. She was one of the original leader of the the Go-Getters 4-H Club, teaching for 36 years. She taught sewing, foods, gardening and crafts to many girls, and a few boys. Marjorie was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Lakeside Grange, and the West Sebewa Community Club. She was a devoted Christian servant. She attended the First Baptist Church of Sebewa her entire life, and where she helped with many missionary projects. Marjorie is survived by her four children; 12 grand children; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Ottice Elaine Austin of Lake Odessa, Norma Lucille Bever and Mary Christine (Kenneth) Towner of Portland; and many more loving relatives and friends who will miss her. The graveside service with interment was held on October 21, 2006 at the North Eagle Cemetery in Eagle, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Saunders of the First Baptist Church of Sebewa officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the First Baptist Church of Sebewa, Barry Community Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Association.
