Swindt the cause of higher education in Ionia county lost one of its truest and most sincere supporters. During an entire lifetime Mrs. Swindt gave her best efforts in the cause of education in the community in which she spent her life. Herself a teacher when a young lady, it was but natural when she left the school room for the home that she continue her interest through all the years. From our earliest recollections the writer remembers her as a leading member of the Board of Education in Pewamo, a member of which she continued until the day of her death. She was secretary of the board and its most influential member when the school site was changed a number of years ago and a modern school built in pleasant surroundings on the west side of the village. Out in the world today are hundreds of men and women who owe their first inspirations to her efforts and the good she was able to accomplish during her life will live long after her mortal remains shall have mingled with the dust from which it sprang. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hunt, were among the pioneer settlers of Pewamo and if we remember correctly it was at their home that the Baptist society of Pewamo was formed. Pioneers of that type were the salt of the earth and so it naturally followed that the daughter should be a pioneer in all of the good things that influenced village life for nearly half a century. Mrs. Swindt has gone to her well earned reward. We shall always remember her for her charm of manner, for her always pleasant view of life, for her desire to lend a helping hand to those about her. We mourn with those who mourn today, for we feel that in her death we, too, lost a sincere friend whom we shall not soon forget.
