Switzer, 77, of Spencer Township, passed away Saturday evening, March 4, 2006, at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus, Greenville. One of 17 children, she was born March 6, 1928, in Belding, to Silas Edward and Mary Martin Thompson. For many years Florence worked as a seamstress at Jolly Kids in Belding and at Wolverine World Wide in Rockford. She had also worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Co. in Greenville. Florence enjoyed cooking, was one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans, and attended Spencer Mills Orthodox Presbyterian Church. After almost 30 years of love and companionship, she married her soulmate, Glenn H. Switzer on April 24, 1993. He passed away July 5, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ted Welch; and 15 brothers and sisters. She is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Silas and Nancy Thompson of Gowen; four stepchildren, Janet and Jim Enbody of Gowen, Pam Devereaux, Glenn Switzer, Jr., both of Greenville, Laura and Roland “Gus” Worthington of Gowen; two special nieces and a nephew, Linda Nichols of Blanchard, Phillip Thompson of Gowen, MaryLou Densmore of Gowen; many, many nieces and nephews; siblings-in-law, Shirley and Max VanNatter of Sparta, Ruth Switzer of Rockford, Everett Walton of Gowen; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spencer Mills Church, 12710 17 Mile Road, off Lincoln Lake Avenue, Gowen, with Pastor Frank Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Mills Cemetery.
