Ionia Sentinel, Wednesday, June 29, 1988

SARANAC - Gertrude M. Sykes, 92, of 300 Summit, Saranac, died June 27 at the 
Ionia Manor.

She was born Feb. 22, 1896, in Belding, the daughter of John and Nettie (Crane) 
Morse.

She was a member of the Saranac Community Church, a charter member of the 
Easton United Methodist Church, and a life member of the Women’s Auxiliary of 
the American Legion.

She married Leslie Sykes Nov. 26, 1917, in Belding; he preceded her in death 
July 20, 1975.

Surviving are two sons, Morse Sykes of Belding and Joseph Sykes… [There is a 
section cut off on the copy I have.] …Geiger of Ionia and June Peabody of 
Haslett; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Saranac, the Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer of the Saranac Community Church 
officiating.  Burial will be in Otisco Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 
p.m.

Memorials have been established for Saranac Community Church and Easton United 
Methodist Church.
