Mrs. John Kenny has received news of the death of her brother, George Sykes, at 
Portland, Oregon, early Thursday morning.  Mr. Sykes lived for many years on 
the Sykes farm near Muir, and is well known in the county.

George Sykes, Civil War Veteran, Called - Sumner Post, Grand Army of the 
Republic, Will Have Charge of Funeral Services on Saturday Morning.

George Sykes, a Civil war veteran, died at his residence, 671 Rodney avenue, 
Thursday.  He served in the Michigan cavalry and participated in 63 battles.  
Mr. Sykes was a native of England and in his seventy-first year.  He came to 
Oregon in 1903, and is survived by a wife, and three children, Russell B. 
Sykes, Newberg; N.J. Sykes, Portland; Mrs. M. Mills, Portland.  Funeral 
services under the auspices of Sumner Post. G.A.R., will be held Saturday 
morning at 9 o’clock from the Central M.E. Church, Vancouver avenue and Fargo 
street.  A.D. Kenworthy & Co., will have charge of arrangements.  Interment 
will be in Rose City cemetery.
