Ionia Daily Standard, 12 Jun 1944

Mrs. Rolland S. Sykes, 47, died suddenly Sunday morning at 6:30 o’clock in 
Clinton Memorial hospital where she had submitted to a major operation ten days 
ago.  Violet Elizabeth Weisgerber was born November 17, 1896, in Orange 
township and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Weisgerber.  Her childhood 
had been spent on a farm in Orange and she was graduated from Ionia High School.

She was married to Rolland Sykes of Muir and the couple would have observed 
their 25th wedding anniversary in the fall.  They had made their home in Muir 
with the exception of a few years in Ann Arbor when Mr. Sykes was a student at 
the University of Michigan.  Dr. Skyes has his office ____ [Transcriber's 
Note:  There is an ink blot on the page] and was assisted in his ____ by Mrs. 
Sykes.  She was a member of First Presbyterian church of Muir and a member of  
___  Literary club.

Surviving besides the husband are two sons, Lieut. (jg) William E. Sykes, 
stationed at Fort Schuyler, N.Y., as an instructor in the U.S. naval reserve; 
Pfc. Robert S. Sykes, attending the University of Michigan under the army’s 
specialized training program and a daughter, Sarah Jane, 12, at home; two 
sisters, Mrs. L. G. French of Ionia and Mrs. Kirk E. Wicks, Grand Rapids; two 
brothers, William Weisgerber and Robert Weisgerber, both of Ionia.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence 
in Muir.  Rev. Paul L. Stewart will officiate and burial will be in Muir 
cemetery.
