Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Sykes, 61, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in 
Midland after a long illness.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1950, in Lansing to Benjamin T. Sykes Jr. and Dorothy 
(Karnath) Sykes. Betsy was raised by guardians, Nick A. and Rosa Smith; and 
foster parents, Ron and Gen Lehman of Portland.

She graduated from St. Patrick High School, Portland, Class of 1969. She served 
with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, then worked for several companies during 
her lifetime.

She is survived by her sister, Linda (Ed) Smith of Fowler; several nieces and 
nephews; brother-in-law, Howard "Howdie" Graft; and life-long family friend, 
Annette Fetzer. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Ben and 
Della Sykes; brother, Leon (Butch) Sykes; sister, Carol Graft; and former 
husband, Phillip Stump.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Lehman Funeral 
Homes, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland, with Deacon Bernard Pohl presiding. 
Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at
