Feb. 6, 2018 PHYLLIS SYPHER, 86 Phyllis A. (Seidelman) Sypher joined her husband and sons in their heavenly home on Feb. 3, 2018. Phyllis was born in Ionia to George and Ethelyn Seidelman on Feb. 13, 1932. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart Keith on Oct. 20, 1951. Phyllis and Keith owned and operated the Cotton Bowl Drive-In, home of the famous "Mexi-Dog" until the early 1960's. After a brief move to Southern Michigan they returned and resided in Lowell. Phyllis was employed at Cary's Dry Goods, West Apparel and Keiser's Kitchen as a cook making many delicious soups, pies and daily specials, until her retirements. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her beautiful flowers Many of her blooms received blue ribbons at the Ionia Free Fair. She was happy when her hands were dirty. Phyllis was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Ionia for all of her 86 years, She was a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of Sunday school and a member of UMW. She lovingly tended to the flowers and landscaping around the church for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Christian Service Center in Ionia. She was preceded in death by her husband Keith, her sons Richard and Mark, her mother Ethelyn (Vermilya) Seidelman, her parents George and Margaret Seidelman, her sister Barbara Lytle, and her brother-in-law Jeryl Thayer. Phyllis will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law Lori and Rudy Smith,, granddaughters and their spouses Jaimi and Tim Scrivener and Hillary and Ryan Fisk, great-grandsons Henry and Lukas Scrivener, brothers David (Janet) Seidelman, Herbert (Millie) Seidelman, James (Karen) Seidelman, sisters Julia Thayer and Kay (Jon) Whan, brother-in-law Lowell Lytle and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Lake Funeral Home in ionia on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. with Pastor cliff Allen officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service (11a.m-1 p.m.) at the funeral home. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Zion United Methodist Church.
