The Ionia Weekly Standard, Friday, July 26, 1907

The funeral of this thoroughly well-liked lad of 16 years was attended from 
the St. John’s Lutheran church this afternoon at 4 o’clock, Rev. B. H. Succop 
officiating.  He was the third youngest of a family of 10 children and was 
born in the house which was his home at time of death.  The bearers were boy 
friends; Will and Herman Steinke, Willie Hass and Carl Warnke.  

Two brothers, Ferdinand and Robert Tafel and Emil Hass, of Milwaukee, and a 
sister, Mrs. Fred Thomas, of Cannonsburg, Kent county, where her to attend the 
funeral.

To many friends we desire in this way to express our appreciation for kindly 
ministrations and courtesies, showing deep sympathy in our great affliction.

Mrs. John Tafel, brothers and sisters.

Note:  The researched has indicated death resulted from the Salem Train 
Wreck.  Also, John Tafel was the child of John Tafel and Willemina (Hacker) 
Tafel.
