The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, May 24, 1972

Helmuth J. Tafel, 79, of Eaton Rapids died Monday at Eaton County Medical Care 
facility in Charlotte.  He was born October 17, 1892, in Ionia the son of John 
and Wilhemina Tafel.  May 25, 1915, he was married to Minnie Melzow, who 
preceded him in death January 7, 1945.  November 24, 1945, he was married to 
Florence Hass of Saginaw and she survives.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Helena Ruehs of Ionia and Mrs. 
Margaret Braman of Lyons; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Before moving to Saginaw he was employed at Peschke Packing plant in Ionia and 
while in Saginaw for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.  Upon retirement ten 
years ago he moved to Eaton Rapids.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Shelly funeral home in Eaton 
Rapids.  Rev. Karl Krauss, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church of Lansing will 
officiate and interment will be at Highland Park cemetery in Ionia.
