Oct. 26, 1967 FERD A. TAFEL Ferd Tafel, 49, of route one, died Thursday at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been a patient the past 18 days. Born in Ionia March 27, 1918 he was the the son of Ferdinand and Augusta Lempke Tafel. He attended St. Johns Lutheran school through the eighth grade and was confirmed at that time. He was graduated from Ionia high School and after graduation was employed at V. and R. Department store inn Alpena for two years. He entered the army May 5, 1942 as an enlisted man and took officers training at Ft. Warren, Cheyenne, Wyoming. While in Cheyenne he married Mariella Kendall of Ionia, June 13, 1942. She returned to ionia and he left for Europe and served with Genera Patton's second Armored Division. After discharge in 1944 he accepted employment at Michell Bentley Corp., in material control. In 1948 he left that employment to work for the State ofMichigan as corrections officer at the Michigan reformatory where he has worked for the past 19 years. He was a commissioned Captain in the Army Reserve. Survivors are his mother Mrs. Augusta Tafel of Ionia, wife Mariella, two brothers and Six sisters. Funeral services will be at Boynton funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hubert Callahan, Chaplain at Michigan Reformatory, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ionia Sentinel Standard-Mon. Oct. 30, 1967 FERD A TAFEL Rev. Hubert Callahan, Chaplain of Michigan Reformatory officiated at funeral services Saturday for Ferd Tafel who died Thursday. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Bearers were Charles Grumbly, Eugene VanVleck, Harold Signs, Martin Stout, Jack Collier and Martin McNamara. Reformatory employees were seated in a group and attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Whitmore and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Whitmore all of Sepherd, Mr. and Mrs.Jack Smith ad Mr. and Mrs. William Reed all of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitmore and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ross all of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Don Comer, Mrs. Dorr Fancett, Carl Fancett, Mrs. Loyal Fancett and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Kendall all of Palo, Mr. and Mrs. Hazen Hines of Belding, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Maynard. Maxine Maynard. Mrs. Jay Bratman, Mrs. Jerry Fletcher and Charles Woodbury all of Muir, George Arnold, Mrs. Earl Harker, Mrs. Ward LeVan and Mrs. Etta Faulkner all of Saranac, Mr. and Mrs. Al Combetta, Mr and Mrs Richard Combetta and Mrs. Francis Combetta and Mrs Francis Tafel all of Detroit. ,Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Tafel of Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Reed of Findley, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. John Stall and Mrs. Barbara Heglund all of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Tempe of Hobart,Ind. , Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith and daughters of Grand Ledge, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grumbly of Owosso, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sherwood, Carson city and Mr. and Mrs. William Whitmore of Sheridan.
