Tafel, 77, of 653 North Jefferson, died early Monday morning at Ionia Manor. He had resided there seven months. He was born March 12, 1888 in Ionia the son of John and Minnie Tafel. January 26, 1910 he was married to Augusta B. Lemke who survives. For many years he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran church where a memorial fund is being established. He was employed at Mitchell-Bentley firm many years and retired in 1953. Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Edward of Detroit, Ferd A. of Ionia, Raymond J. of Midland, William of Williamston; seven daughters, Mrs. John Reuter of Chicago, Mrs. Al Combetta of Detroit, Mrs. Joseph Evans of Bridgeman, Mrs. Ray Reed of Ionia, Mrs. Ray Smith of Grand Ledge, Mrs. Larry Timpe of Hobart, Ind., and Mrs. John Koyish of Muir; 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother Helmulth of Eaton Rapids. One daughter and three sons preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at St. Johns Lutheran church and interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery. The family will be at Stone-Kauffman funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 and Wednesday afternoon 2 to 4 and evening 7 to 9.
