Deceased was born in Webster, Monroe county, new York, May 8, 1844, coming to Michigan in 1866, settling in Ionia city, where she resided for a few years. She was married to Riley Taft November 15, 1866, with whom she lived to the time of her death. There were born to them four children, Eva, Alice, Anna and Bertha, all of whom survive her, except Alice who died November 30, 1896. She also leaves an adopted daughter Edith. Husband and wife moved onto their present farm at an early day and deceased was held in universal esteem by her friends and neighbors. In early life Mrs. Taft united with the Methodist church and was ever faithful and loyal to her Master. She suffered a stroke of apoplexy a week prior to her death, never regaining consciousness. Her children and husband were with her through her illness, lovingly and tenderly ministering to her every want. The funeral was held from the home Sunday and is said to have been one of the largest ever held in that vicinity. It was conducted by Rev. E.E. Ogden. The singing was by Messrs. W.R. Grant and J. Hale and Mesdames Bradt and T.U. Hawley. The pall-bearers were Frank Taft, Geo. Kuhtz, James Whiting and Henry Croel. Interment in Balcom cemetery.
