She was born near Gaines, Genesee County, daughter of Ezra and Lydia Hammond, and married Essler Taft 75 years ago in Pewamo. Mr. Taft passed away 25 years ago. Mrs. Taft spent most of her married life in Ionia County but her later years were spent in Flint with a cousin, Mrs. N. F. Hauck. Besides Mrs. Hauck she leaves to mourn their loss, a half-sister, Mrs. Marguerite Burton of Grand Rapids; a half-brother, Oliver Hammond, of California. Also a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was woman of sincere Christian faith, a member of the community Presbyterian Church, and she always saw the good in folks rather than their faults. She had a smile for her friends no matter how much she was suffering. Those who had the good fortune to call her friend will long remember her gentle, kindly manner and are the better for having known her. Services were from the Algre-Gundry Mortuary in Flint, Monday, December 5. Rev. Elmer Braden of the Community Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in Byron, Mich.
