Mr. Taggart had been in frail health several years and had suffered failing eyesight yet he had been about the home assisting Mrs. Taggart whenever possible. Tuesday he seemed as well as usual and was downtown with her. Wednesday morning he wakened with a pain in the region of his heart but the seriousness of his condition was not fully realized until his peaceful death the same evening. Mr. Taggart was born in Orleans township 72 yeas ago and lived in that vicinity until his marriage 38 years ago, coming at the time to the farm in Easton, now known as the Sprout farm. He lived there until his retirement from his agricultural pursuits 28 years ago. Leaving the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Taggart came to Ionia and lived in the same house on State street. Mr. Taggart was education in the Dildine school, and was an active member of the Dildine school association. It was in this little schoolhouse 39 years ago that he professed the Christian religion and has been faithful to the vows taken then. He was an usher in the First Methodist Episcopal church until his dimmed eyesight caused him to give up the work. Those who came in contact with Mr. Taggart did not have to read from a printed page of his religion. He lived it in his life, showed it in his personality and in his transactions with men. He had submitted to severe surgical treatment in the hope of regaining his eyesight but when these treatments were without the success that had been hoped for, he remained cheerful and uncomplaining. He leaves his widow; a sister, Mrs. Mary A. Mills, of Ann Arbor, and a nephew, Dr. Clinton Mills, of Detroit. Funeral services will be conducted from the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. M. W. Duffey. Burial will be in the Easton cemetery.
