May 21, 1929 Mrs. Julia Tanner, 89, died Tuesday morning at her home, 611 West Washington street, after an illness that had persisted for the past four months. Mrs. Tanner was a native of Oakland county, coming to Ionia county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eleazer Murray, when she was a child of five years. She was one of a family of one son and five daughters, of which the son died many years ago, but the five girls lived until the youngest was 76 years of age. Three of these sisters have died within the past year, Mrs. Emily Morrison, of Arkansas; Mrs. Minerva Millicent, of California, and Mrs. Tanner, the last of the family. Mrs. Tanner was a descendant of Elisha Doty, who built the first frame house in Berlin township, and also traced her lineage back to Edward Doty, who came to America on the Mayflower in 1620. She was one of the oldest members of the Church of Christ, both in age and in years of affiliation with that church. She was also a member of the W. R. C. One adopted son, Hal Tanner survives. The funeral services for Mrs. Tanner will be held from the residence Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and from the Church of Christ at 2 o’clock. The interment will be in the Balcom cemetery.
