When she was a small child the family moved to the township of Orange, Ionia county, where her girlhood was spent. She was married to Marshall Tanner, November 15th, 1863. To this union were born eight children, three of whom died in infancy. She leaves to mourn their loss the aged husband and five children; Mrs. E.A. Rising of Clarksville, Mrs. W.A. Weiers of Ionia, Mrs. Louis Buche of Odessa township, Adelbert of Boston township, and Lewis of Berlin; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers and a large circle of friends. In the spring of 1872 they moved onto the farm in Berlin, which was then a wilderness. Enduring the hardships and privations of the early settlers, they made for them selves a fine home. In her early married life she was converted and baptized, and about 12 years ago she united with the Wesleyan Methodist church at West Berlin, and as long as her health permitted she was a faithful attendant at church and the Missionary society and has always been a loyal worker in the Woman's Relief Corps of Saranac, of which she has been a member for years. The children were all at her bedside when the end came. Mrs. Tanner was a dutiful, kind wife and mother, a staunch friend and a good neighbor, with a kind and pleasant smile for everyone, and will be greatly missed in the community where she has spent the last forty years of life. "Safe in the arms of Jesus," Safe on His gentle breast, There by his love overshadowed Sweetly her soul shall rest.
