Wave, Thurs. Feb. 22, 1979 IONIA- An Ionia resident, Abram Tanner, 81, of 649 Union St. died Wednesday at Sheridan Community hospital. Tanner was born June 12, 1897 in Easton township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Perry Tanner. On September 13, 1920 he married Ivah Robinson in Lake Odessa. She preceded him in death September 11, 1877. He was employed at Ionia Post Office for 42 years and was the first to have a motorized motor route. He was also leader of the Postal Employee Union Association. He was a member of first boy scout troop of Ionia; former member of Elks and Hunting and Fishing Clubs, former Deacon of First Baptist Church. Tanner was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margie Warren of Sheridan; Ruth Tanner of Ionia; one sister Mr. Lodema D. Stacy of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1:30 pm at the First Baptist church. Rev. Roy Pitts and Rev. William Raymor will officiate. Private committal service will be at Balcom cemetery at a later date. The family will be at the Myers-Roetman funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 pm and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm to greet friends and relatives.
