Ionia Sentinel-Standard - 2009

Kathleen “Kay” Taylor, aged 73, of Ionia, passed away May 12, 2009 in Ionia.

She was born Oct. 19, 1935 in Berlin Twp., the daughter of Claude and Jessie 
(Emelander) Thomas Sr. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1954. Kay 
married Burton Taylor Feb. 21, 1959 in Ionia. She was a member of Berlin Center 
Church. She loved the Ionia Free Fair, baking pies, angles, dolls, crocheting, 
tulips and traveling. 

Kay is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Burton Taylor of Ionia; 
children, Jon (Karen) Taylor of Lawton, Randy (Cindy) Taylor of Ionia and Julie 
(Brad) Kilchermann of Crystal; brothers Richard (Dee) Thomas of Ionia and Leo 
Thomas of Ionia; sisters, Rose Moon of Ionia and Martha Schwarz of Portland; 
brother-in-law, Don Taylor of Georgia; sister-in-law Margaret Thomas of Ionia; 
grandchildren, Amanda, Josh, Stephanie, Jaron and Jasper and several nieces, 
nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Claude Jr., Fran, Frank 
and Wilbur, 2 sister, Mary Ward and Ruth Thomas; brothers-in-law, Howard Moon, 
Ken Ward, Forest Nash and Glen Schwaz; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Thomas and Betty 
Nash; mother-and-father-in-law, Russell and Katherine Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Berlin Center Church with Rev. 
David Flagel officiating. Interment Balcom Cemetery in Ionia. The family will 
receive friends and relatives Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in Kay’s name to Berlin 
Center Church or Zion Food Pantry. Online condolences may be made at
