Taylor, 92, of Belding, died Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2013, at home. George was born on Oct. 23, 1920, in Moline, the son of Morris and Jeanette (Malone) Taylor. He was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp which was sunk by the Japanese. He later served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a talented and self taught musician, learning to play the guitar, harmonica and accordion. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 4406 in Belding. George was married on Feb. 23, 1943, to Nellie Ulis and she preceded him in 2011. He was also preceded by his parents; two brothers, Morris and Richard; five sisters, Muriel, Mary, Marvel, Laura, Ethel; a daughter, Carole; and a son, Terry. He is survived by his children, Roger and Penny Taylor of Belding, Kenneth and Beth Taylor of Greenville; his grandchildren; Cindy and Chuck Crosset, Dianne Taylor, Kenny and Dee Taylor, Tonda Taylor, Tammy Wright, Matt Taylor, Michelle Taylor, John Taylor, Kirk Taylor, Ronda Taylor, a number of great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Darwyn Hassert officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in the spring in Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan.
