Taylor, wife of Capt. J. C. Taylor, died at 4:40 this morning at the residence, corner of Harter street and Lincoln avenue. For two months she has struggled with sickness, but it was not thought she was in danger until Thursday, when she was taken worse and became unconscious, never recovering. Her death is the more unexpected as she felt better on Wednesday than at any time during her illness. She was the daughter of C. Reed Taylor, a pioneer of Ionia county, and born in Mishawaka, Indiana, [unreadable], 1847. Since 1866 she has resided in Ionia county and was [unreadable] October ?, 18?7. The husband and six children survive. They are Jean, Florence, Alice and Martha, of Ionia; Rev. C. Reed Taylor, of Kansas City, and Richard of Chicago. Mrs. Taylor was a prominent resident of the city, of high character, lovable, conscientious and kind. As a member of the community her loss will be keenly felt. Her life was spent working to the best interests of her home, her family and the city in which she lived. She has been a life long member of the Episcopal church, where she was a regular and devoted attendant. Always faithful in her home duties, a mother to be proud of, a genial neighbor and friend, her loss is one in which the whole community feels the deepest sorrow. The announcements of the funeral will be made later. ------------- Funeral for Mrs. J. C. Taylor Simple But Impressive Service of Prayer Largely Attended. The funeral service for the late Mrs. J. C. Taylor was held at ten o’clock this morning at St. Johns Episcopal church, where the deceased was long a faithful and conscientious communicant. The simple but impressive service of prayer was read by Dr. J. E. Wilkinson, rector. He was assisted by Rev. Cyrus Mendenhall. There were no remarks by the rector. Hymns were sung by the church choir. The remains of the good woman were carried by comrades and lifelong friends of Mr. Taylor – Chas. C. Eyster, Gen. J. H. Kidd, Maj. T. G. Stevenson, J. Lee Fowle, William B. Heath and James Vosper. The place of interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. It was noticeable that the large attendance at the funeral included many of the older residents of the city, while still further regard for the deceased was manifested in the great profusion of floral offerings at the home on Sunday, where many friends called to personally express their condolences. Richard Taylor arrived Friday from Chicago, Rev. Carl Reed Taylor Saturday from Kansas City, Kansas, and Florence the same day, medical college. Henry P. Taylor, brother of Mr. Taylor, arrived several days before Mrs. Taylor died. L. E. Rowley came this morning, also to attend the funeral.
