C. Teachout Held Saturday Deceased Never Regained Consciousness After Stricken With Apoplexy The funeral of Elijah C. Teachout, whose death occurred last Tuesday after a stroke of apoplexy, was held at the home of his son, George, Saturday afternoon. Rev. J. H. Bancroft officiated at the funeral. Burial was made in the Portland cemetery. Mr. Teachout was born at Port Barnes, New York, November 2, 1848, and came to Michigan with his parents when he was 16 years of age, settling near Albion. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Pierce of Orange, living in this vicinity for several years, then moving to Albion where they lived for about 18 years. About 12 years ago they moved back to Orange where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Teachout, for the past two years, have resided in the tenant house on the A. D. Northrup farm, where Mr. Teachout has been helping with the farm work. He had been working just prior to his death and had come into the house to rest, lying down on the couch for that purpose. A little later Mrs. Teachout who was working in the kitchen, heard a noise in the living room and upon entering, found Mr. Teachout lying unconscious on the floor. She immediately summoned Mr. Northrup for help and called a doctor, but he died shortly afterwards, never regaining consciousness. Besides the widow he is survived by two sons, George of Portland, and Claude of Lansing.
