TEMPLETON Entire Community Mourns Passing of Popular Banker W.T. Templeton, vice-president and cashier of the State Savings Bank, died suddenly about 4:30 Sunday afternoon at his home on High street. Death was due to a heart attack. He was 56 years old. Mr. Templeton had worked at the bank during the afternoon Sunday and on his return home told Mrs. Templeton he felt a pain in his chest and throat, his head fell forward and he died before Dr. Maran, who was called immediately, could reach the home. William Yates Templeton was born February 18, 1888, in Roseville and was nine years old when he came to Ionia with his mother, Mrs. A.L. Templeton, and his three sisters. As a young man he was employed as a shipping clerk at Michigan Reformatory. He later worked as a shipping clerk at the state prison in Jackson and for the Grand Trunk R.R. company in Ionia. He then entered the employ of the State Savings Bank at Ionia and has been associated with the bank and its affiliated organizations continuously for 38 years. When the bank was reorganized in 1933 he became its cashier and soon afterward was elected vice-president. He had been secretary of the Western Michigan group of the Michigan Bankers Association and at the time of his death was vice-chairman of the West Michigan division. Fraternally, he was a member of Ionia Lodge B.P.O.E. of which he was treasurer for several years, and an honorary member of the Past Exalted Rulers Association. In July, 1910, he was married to Miss Mary Miller of Findley, Ohio, Mrs. Templeton, with their son, William H., and daughter, Miss Norene, survive him. He also leaves three sisters, Miss Jean Templeton of Jackson, Mrs. R. Krise of Ann Arbor and Mrs. W. C. Smith of Marine City. Rev. A.J. Westmaas officiated at the funeral service, held Wednesday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, of which Mr. Templeton was a member and chairman of its board of trustees at the time of his death. Pall bearers were Fred B. Post, G. Lee Yates, Joseph Hauck, Clyde Spencer, Dale K. Jepson, Ionia, ad Dr. Richard Benedict of West Branch. Burial was in Highland Park cemetery. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Bert Thatcher, Mrs. Montgomery Webster, Miss Marjorie Wheaton and Miss Ella Ross. Hundreds of friends in Ionia city and county and banking associates throughout the state attended the service and taxed the seating capacity of the church. Among the out of town relatives, friends and banking associates attended the funeral were Thomas Templeton, Mrs. Warren Sisman, Detroit; Steve Hicks, Charlotte, N.C.; John Shoemaker, West Branch; Robert Belcher, Jackson; Harold Asplin, vice-president of the National Bank and George Tait, vice- president of the Manufacturers Bank, both of Detroit; James V. Stuart, Michigan National of Grand Rapids; Ray Brundage, executive manager of the Michigan Banker's Association; Ross Hudson, deputy state banking commissioner; Eugene Richards, executive vice-president of the Old Kent Bank of Grand Rapids; Charles Miller, Commercial State bank of Greenville, and Arthur Johnson, president of the State Bank of St. Johns.
