Thayer died at the U.B.S. Hospital in Grand Rapids Tuesday, July 4th. He was removed there two weeks prior to his death. The body was brought to his home in Lyons Thursday morning and the funeral will be held there Friday morning at 10 o’clock, in charge of the G.A.R. post, of which he was a member. Mr. Thayer was a prominent citizen of Lyons and had been for many years. He had held many public offices and enjoyed in a marked degree the confidence and esteem of the people. At the recent spring election he was elected Justice of the Peace but died on the very day his term of office commenced. He was chairman of the Soldiers Relief Committee of the county and one of his last official acts was the signing of a voucher for the relief of a comrade. For several months he had been in failing health, and during the past six weeks had been confined to the bed nearly all the time. He was 68 years of age and his nearest relatives are a nephew and niece.
