In 1852, at the age of ten years, she removed with her parents to Lyons, Michigan, where the family settled on a farm. She was one of the first to enter the Lyons high school. After she completed her education she taught several terms of school. On January 1st, 1866, she was married to E.N. Thayer, then of Somerset, New York. The ceremony was performed at the farm home of the family in Lyons township by the Rev. George Ransom of Muir. Returning to the state of New York she with her husband made her home there for two years, after which they came back to Lyons township and settled on a farm, where they resided until 1883, when they removed to Lyons village, where she spent the rest of her life. She died October 13, 1907, aged 65 years, two months and seventeen days. Soon after settling in Lyons township in 1868 she gave her heart to God and united with the Presbyterian Church of Muir, of which the Rev. George Ransom was then pastor. She was henceforth a devoted worker in the church and contributed of her means for its support, being always interested in every good work connected with the church. As long as her health permitted she was an active worker in the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. She was also a member of Evergreen Chapter Order of Eastern Star, but owing to poor health had not been able to attend many of their meetings. Fidelity to her friends and thoughtfulness for others were dominant traits in her character and were manifested even to the end, her last words being an expression of solicitude for the comfort of those about her. The funeral took place from the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. V. K. Beshgetoor, assisted by Rev. H.E. Wylie, a large number of neighbors and friends being present, among whom were the following from a distance: W.A. Atwater, Arthur Bennett and C.L. Thayer of the state of New York, C.W. Johnson and wife, Mrs. Frank Gibson and Mrs. Nellie Brown of Greenville, Mrs. Wm. White, Mrs. A. S. Benjamin and Glen Benjamin of Portland. The music was furnished by Mrs. C.W. Johnson and Mrs. Nellie Brown of Greenville and Mrs. J.H. Ruel of Lyons. E.B. Hale, L.H. Hale, G.H. MacGillivray, W.C. Hawley, E.S. Fuller and V.F. Upton acted as pall-bearers. The floral offerings were exceptionally fine, including pieces from the Order of the Eastern Star, the W.R.C., the W.C.T.U., the Baptist ladies aid society and a large number of private individuals and families in and out of town. Interment took place at the Lyons cemetery. Card of Thanks. to the many friends who have so kindly assisted us during the illness, death and burial of the late Mrs. E.N. Thayer, we wish to extend our most sincere thanks and express our appreciation of the beautiful floral offerings. – E.N. Thayer, Mrs. B.H. Stevens, Mrs. D.L. Boyden, Miss Nellie Boyden.
