Nov. 18. 1937 RONALD PIONEER DIES AT IONIA RESIDENCE – George D. Thayer, Ronald township pioneer resident, died at his home on High Street, Ionia, at 7:25 Wednesday morning, November 17, after five weeks illness. Mr. Thayer was born July 19, 1862, on a farm in Ronald township, obtained by his father as a government land grant. Practically all of his 75 years were spent on this farm. His father died when Mr. Thayer was a small boy and he was only nine years old when he first obtained work, in a saw mill near his farm home. He was a member of the grange, and was greatly interested in community activities as long as his health permitted. His marriage to Miss Bertha Lenore Freeman took place in Ronald on August 21, 1887, and they observed their golden wedding anniversary in August of this year. Mrs. Thayer with their one daughter, Mrs. Harry Whipple, and three granddaughters Nila and Avis Bluemly, Easton and Mrs. E. K. McKeller of Oxford, and a brother, E. E. Thayer of Sheridan are the surviving relatives. Rev. C. E. Brady will conduct the funeral service which will be held from Stebbins funeral home at 1:30 and the church of Christ at 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
