The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, August 21, 1926
Deep-seated pneumonia, said to have set in as the result of a fractured 
collarbone; caused the death Thursday in Greenville hospital of Austin Thayer, 
six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thayer, of Fenwick.

The boy fell from a haymow at his father’s farm on Monday, injuring his 
shoulder though not seriously, it was thought.  Wednesday he fell a second 
time, this time breaking his collarbone.  He was taken to a physician who 
restored the fracture.  Later Wednesday night the lad began to suffer intense 
pain in the stomach, and Thursday he was taken to Greenville hospital where he 
died an hour later.  

There are two other children in the family, an older son, Fred, and a two-
months old baby.
