She was born February 29, 1924 in Westphalia the daughter of Mathias and Mary (Belen) Kloeckner. Winnie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia, Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Her passions in life were playing cards, putting puzzles together, baking bread and tending to her flower garden. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald N. Thelen; sons Bruce and Russell Thelen; granddaughter, Jamie Thelen; great grandson Brandon Thelen; brothers Hilary, Arthur, Harold, Richard, Donald and Melvin Kloeckner; sisters Vera Spitzley, Alma Thelen, Pauline Williams. Surviving are her children Denise (David) Cushion of DeWitt, David (Judy) Thelen of DeWitt, Nancy Jo (Gary) Bissell of Grand Ledge, Jerry (Alice) Thelen of Lansing and Jane (James) Bierstetel of Westphalia; 26 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; sisters Margaret Masseau of Lansing, Laurine Sebrell of Lansing, Germaine Walker of Lansing, Joann Cook of Pewamo, Patricia (DJ) Mace of Lansing; sister-in-law, Mary Kloeckner of Portland; daughter-in-law, Maureen Thelen of Lansing; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Sylvester Fedewa at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia, Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday. Arrangements are entrusted to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
