LAKE ODESSA- Helen Maria Thelen, 51, of 539 Eagle Point, Lake Odessa, died June 
27 at Pennock Hospital, Hastings.

Born Oct. 5, 1935, in Lyons, she was the daughter of Henry and Helena Smith 
Burch, A graduate of Portland High School, she was an executive secretary of 
the Michigan Department of Social Services for 27 years.

A member of St. Edward’s Church, Lake Odessa, she was also a member of the 
church’s Altar Society Circle.

Surviving are her husband James; three daughters, Susan and Rosemary Thelen and 
Evelyn Griffiths, all of Portland, three grandchildren; three brothers, 
Clifford, Wayne and Hank, all of Carson City; and a sister, Charlotte Black of 
Portland.

A son, Mark, preceded her in death.

Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. rom St. Edward’s Church, Lake Odessa, 
the Rev. James Bozung officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Rosary will be said Monday at 8 p.m. at Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa.

The family will be at the chapel Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
