He was born May 5, 1941, in Berlin township, the son of Claude and Jessie Emelander Thomas. He attended Benedict school and Ionia high school and was active in the FFA. After school he worked with his father and brothers on the family farm and in 1960 he started work at Ionia County Road Commission, as truck driver and was employed there until his death. Surviving are his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thomas, Sr.; four brothers, a twin, Francis Thomas, Claude Thomas, Jr., Richard Thomas and Leo Thomas all of Ionia; four sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Ward of Portland, Mrs. Glen Schwarz, of Portland, Mrs. Howard Moon and Mrs. Burton Taylor. Funeral services will be at Boynton funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earle J. Stine officiating and interment in Balcom cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Michigan Diabetic association.
