Ionia Sentinel Standard, 19 Aug 1959

Arthur E. Thomas, 74, Lake Odessa, died suddenly August 18.  He was found on the
front porch of his home by the paper boy about 5 p.m.  Troopers from the Ionia
state police post and Coroner Neil Phelps investigated.  They said death was
caused by a heart attack and he had died about 11 a.m.

Mr. Thomas was born April 10, 1885 in Kalkaska county, the son of Ellis Thomas
and Elva Kanute Thomas.  He operated a grocery store in East Lansing form 1924
until he retired in 1942 and moved to Lake Odessa in 1945.  His wife, Zella Figg
Thomas died five years ago.

Surviving are a son Bruce of Lansing; one granddaughter and one sister, Mrs.
Nellie Peterson of Springport.

The body of Mr. Thomas is at the Pickens funeral home at Lake Odessa where
service will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be at Lakeside
cemetery.  The Rev. Floyd J. Fitch, pastor of the Central Methodist church will
officiate.
