Uceba (Daniels) Thomas, 97, daughter of the last Andrus and Anna Daniels, 
passed away on Oct. 25, 1999, at Thornapple Manor in Hasting.  She was born in 
Sebewa Township on May 17, 1902.

Mrs. Thomas attended Johnson Rural School and graduated from Lake Odessa High 
School in 1921.

She also attended Montcalm County Normal and Western State Teacher’s College 
(now Western Michigan University), earning her teaching credentials in 
elementary education.  She taught in elementary schools at the Johnson School 
and also in Sunfield, Woodland, and Clarksville between 1923 and 1966.

Mrs. Thomas married Bernard S. Thomas, a Lake Odessa resident, in Angola, Ind., 
on Aug. 5, 1931.  He preceded her in death on April 10, 1983.  She was a member 
of the Blue Star Mothers, the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa and 
its Women’s Fellowship.

Mrs. Thomas was also preceded in death by her sisters, Myrtle Earl and Bernice 
Gunn and her grandson, Randy Carr, all of Lake Odessa.

She leaves four children, Berandine (Gene) Carr of Lake Odessa, Lowell (Jane) 
Thomas of Beaverton, Douglas (Marjorie) Thomas of Grand Blanc, and Bruce 
(Jeannette) Thomas of Clancy, Mont.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-
grandchildren; and her brother Oren (Beulah) Daniels of Lake Odessa.

The funeral service will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, at 11 
a.m. Thursday, Oct 28, 1999, with visitation on Wednesday from 2 until 4 and 7 
until 9 p.m.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, 
memorial contributions may be made to the Women’s Fellowship at the First 
Congregational Church in Lake Odessa.
