Belding – Dorothy Thomas, 76, Venice, Fla., formerly of Ionia and Belding area,
passed away Thursday, May 1, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Clarkston.

She was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Detroit to Maurice and Marie Urbain VandenDaele. 
She graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1938 and was a real
estate salesperson in Bedford, Ind., for a number of years.  She was the first
woman president of the Board of Realtors in Bedford, and a member of the Bedford
Chamber of Commerce.  She was married Nov. 19, 1944, in Belding, to Thomas G.
Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; their children, Jamie and William Fish
of Clarkston, Thomas J. and Catherine Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; and four
grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a half brother, William Garad.

Visitation will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, on Sunday from 3
to 7 p.m. with funeral services at 4:30 p.m., the Rev. Dick Woodward
officiating.  Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery.  Memorials may be made
to Helping Hands Hospice of Ionia County or the American Cancer Society.
