Dale Frederick  “Bud” Thomas, age 86, of Belding, passed away on Saturday, June 
28, 2014 at Metron of Belding Nursing Care Center, following a long illness.  
He was born in Plainwell, Michigan on October 25, 1927, the son of Leland Dale 
and Astrid Henrietta (Nielsen) Thomas, both of whom preceded him in death. 

Dale was born vision impaired and attended Lansing school for the blind.  In 
spite of his challenges with sight, he accomplished much.  He worked for a 
number of years at a machine shop finishing parts to perfection by feel.  He 
also remodeled several houses with his wife, Dorothy M. Thomas.  Bud loved to 
travel to Florida and other places near and far, spend time with family and 
friends and when he could, just rock time away in the living room or on the 
porch.     
 
Dale leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dorothy; children, Kenneth M. 
Thomas of Belding, Susan Thomas of Sheridan, David Thomas of Sydney, Carol 
Clark of Stanton, Lori Thomas of Six Lakes, Penny Thompson and Tony D. Thomas 
of Greenville; step-children Thana Lindsey of Greenville and Trese Lambertson 
of Belding; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings Richard 
(JoEllen) Thomas of Belding and Betty (Robert) Vanderlip of Holland; and many 
nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
 
A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Verdun Family Funeral 
Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan with Pastor Roger May and members 
of the family taking part in the service.  The family will greet visitors for 
an hour prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.  Those planning an expression 
of sympathy are welcome to consider a memorial contribution in Dale’s memory to 
the benefit of the family.  Private interment services will take place near 
Edmore, Michigan.  Envelopes will be available at the service or by contacting 
Verdun Family Funeral Home in Belding at (616) 794-1300.
