Leo Thomas, aged 76, of Ionia, MI., passed away October 14th, 2014.  He was 
born April 16th, 1938 to Claude Sr. and Jessie (Emelander) Thomas.  Leo married 
Earlene Hoople in 1958.  They were married for 16 years and had three sons 
together.  He remarried Carolyn (Durbin) Stencel in December of 1982, whom he 
shared his life with for 24 years, before her passing on July 7th, 2007. 

Leo retired from General Motors of Lansing in July 1995 after 30 years.  His 
passion was working in his yard.  He loved going to the casino, riding his golf 
cart around the fairgrounds, enjoyed listening to the music on Thursday’s at 
Ionia Commission on aging and visiting with family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, second wife, five brothers 
and five sisters, stepson Michael Stencel and step daughter Colleen Wandell.  
He is survived by his sons, David (Karen) Thomas, Christopher (Tammy) Thomas 
and Scott (Shirley) Thomas all of Ionia; step daughter, Deb (Jake) Springsteen 
and family; step son-in-law, Mike Wandell and family; grandchildren, Traci 
(Todd) Flanner, Travis (Megan) Thomas, Jarrod (Barbara) Thomas, Kassidy (Todd) 
Tubergen all of Ionia, Brandon (Arica) Thomas of Ohio; five great 
grandchildren; sisters in law, Delores Thomas and Margaret Thomas; brother-in-
law, Burton Taylor and many nieces and nephews and his special four legged 
buddy Rodie. 

Per his wishes no service or visitation will be held.  Cremation has taken 
place.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Memorial 
contributions may be made to hospice or Zion United Methodist Church Food 
Pantry.  Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
