Dec.17, 1920 LEE THOMAS DIED AT DETROIT HOME Lee Thomas, a Lake Odessa boy during his boyhood, and a youth, died of tuberculosis last Friday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Knapp, of Detroit. The Knapps lived in lake Odessa many years but for the last few years have made Detroit their home. Lee was a general favorite in school and among his companions while in lake Odessa and when news of his service to his country, came to his friends, it was always with honorable mention. It is a sad thing the many those who escaped death during the world war operations, must pay the price even after the was has ceased. IN MEMORY OF Lee R. Thomas was born at South Boardman, Mich., on the 19th day of March, 1897. Departed this life on the tenth day of December, 1920, aged 23 yrs, 8 mo., 21 days. He answered his country's call on the 13th day of 1916, enlisting in Troop L. 301st Cavalry Soon afterward he was transferred Battery D. 47th Field Artillery, Camp Kearney, California He was promoted to Corporal on July 1, 1916 and received the rank of Sargent on July 6, 1916. He served his country honestly and faithfully with honorable discharged, on the thirteenth day of Feb. 1918, at Camp Custer, Mich. While in his country's service he contracted the "white plague" and has been in feeble health since his release from the army. He bore his suffering with heroic courage, finally on the tenth day of December, the Great Messenger bore his spirit home to the Great Beyond. He is survived by his parents, one brother and three sisters. Funeral service were conducted from the home in Detroit. the remains were brought to the home of his sister, Mr and Mrs. O. B. Garlinger, Sunday evening. Brief services were held on Monday morning, Rev. A. H. Lash officiating. Interment at lake Odessa with the American Legion of Odessa as escort to the resting place oof their comrade. "My life I gave for three, What hast thou given for me."
