Nov. 4, 1925 VIVERN THOMAS SAD VICTIM OF THE HUNT Young Man Enjoying a Few Days Vacation With Gun Looses Life Vivern Thomas, the son of Mr.and Mrs. Claud Thomas living south of the Cheney school house was spending his few days vacation last week as many others, going hunting. While climbing on a fence the gun accidentally discharged and the shot entered the intestines. After being cared for at home with first aid he was taken to the Pennock hospital where everything was done for his recovery, but nothing availed. He was a student of the Cheney school and beloved by his o mates as well as his home people. He was almost the exact age of the Young Probasco boy sho was shot in like manner, while hunting. The funeral was very largely attended at the Methodist church Wednesday, Rev. O. F. Bulman giving the address on "Weaving the pattern." Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Goodemoot sang and burial was in lake side Cemetery. OBITUARY Vivern J. Thomas, oldest son of Claud and Martha Thomas, was born in Carlton, Barry county, Michigan. August 13th, 1910, and departed this life at Pennock hospital, Hastings Friday afternoon. Vivern, in company with friends, was out hunting, while sitting on the fence his gun was accidentally discharged and the full force of shot entered his body. He called to his companions, who responded quickly, and carried him to a neighbor's home, where a doctor was summoned. Later he was take to Pennock hospital, where all that Medical skill, nurse's care and kind friends could do for him, was done, but to no avail. The patience and endurance he showed through his sickness was wonderful, never once uttering a word of complaint, but always saying he was better. Vivern had not gone far upon the highways of manhood, but far enough to show that in him there was breadth of mind and strength of character to fit him for the real work of life. He had been an unassuming but a steadfast friend, a devoted brother, a loving son. He was an earnest worker, always applying himself happily to the task assigned him. His was a life whose influence will never lose its power with those who knew and loved him here. He succeeded in giving out of the bounty of his own genial good nature to the joy of others. He leaves to mourn their loss, the mother, father, a sister Rheta, a brother Gerald, grandparents, aunts uncles, and many, many friends who mourn a life cut off so prematurely. The providences of God are not easily understood but we know, "He doeth all things well."
