He was born in Ionia county Oct. 4, 1897, son of Abram and Elmira (Kime) Thomas and attended Lake Odessa High School. October 2, 1919, he married Ilo Mote of Lake Odessa and they farmed for six years in the area until moving to Hastings where he operated a gasline station for several years. He then owned and operated the Hastings Burial Vault Co. for 28 years and in 1953 sold the business and took a position with the Miller Real Estate Co., retiring in 1964. Mr. Thomas served on the board of directors of the Hastings Savings and Loan Association for 23 years and was serving as vice president at the time of his death. A past president of the Hastings Rotary Club, past noble grand of Hastings IOOF Lodge and a member of Grace Brethren Church on Vedder Rod, southwest of Lake Odessa, since 1913. Surviving are his wife and three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Swiger of Lansing, Mrs. Homer (Ruby) Klingman of Lake Odessa and Mrs. George (Martha) Kussmaul of Woodbury. Funeral services were held at the Leonard - Osgood Funeral Home at Hastings Thursday (today) at 2 p.m.. Rev. Richard Cornwell officiating with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
