The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, January 9, 1967
Wilbur S. Thomas, 91, of route 4, South State road, died at Ionia County 
Memorial hospital Sunday evening.  A lifelong resident of Ionia county, he was 
born September 6, 1875 the son of Henry and Marie Morrison Thomas.  Mr. Thomas 
was a former employee of Pere Marquette car shops and was a carpenter and 
farmer.  He was sexton of Balcom cemetery 42 years and also was a member of 
First Christian church of Ionia.

He married Rose Marie Wilcox on March 24, 1897 in Ionia.  In 1947 they 
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Mrs. Thomas died in September of 
1959 and a son Grover in 1946.  Surviving are four sons, Richard C. Thomas of 
Boise, Idaho; Claude Thomas and George Thomas of Ionia; and Charles Thomas of 
Portland; four daughters, Mrs. Mable Jack of Ionia; Mrs. Ruth Baxter of 
Greenville; Mrs. Myra Rudd of Saranac and Mrs. Lois Bugbee of Ionia; 28 
grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home and burial 
will be in Balcom cemetery.

Subsequent Publication:  Thursday, January 12, 1967

Rev. Donald Price of Battle Creek officiated Wednesday at funeral services for 
Wilbur Thomas and burial was in Balcom cemetery.  Bearers were Claude Thomas, 
Jr., Richard Thomas, Jr., Roger Thomas, Charles Thomas, Jr., Glenn Baxter, 
Jr., and Charles Jack.

Relatives and friends from out of town were from Kalamazoo, Montrose, 
Greenville, Portland, Chesaning, and Saranac.  A son, Richard, of Boise, Idaho 
was unable to attend because of illness.
