Joan Rae Thomas, age 78, of Ionia, passed away March 31, 2007 in Ionia. She 
was born December 27, 1928 in Davison, the daughter of Raymond and Glenydene 
Peabody. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1947. Joan Thomas married 
Stanley D. Thomas September 11, 1949 in Ionia, who preceded her in death April 
25, 2005.

She knitted mittens, hats and scarves year round for the Mitten Tree at Ionia 
County National Bank.

Joan is survived by her children Kim and Greg Courtnay of Ionia, Marc Thomas 
and Nancy Edwards of Greenville, Laura and Dave Vroman of Ionia; brother, 
Richard and Melanie Peabody of Harbor Springs; grandchildren, Joe, Andrew, 
Elliott and Kaylie.  She was preceded in death by one sister Kathleen Michael.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., today, Wednesday, at Lake Funeral Home 
in Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment Balcom Cemetery.  The 
family received friends and relatives Tuesday at the funeral home.  Anyone 
wishing may make memorial contributions in Joan's memory to Alzheimer's 
Association.
