The deceased died from the effects of childbirth, a son having been born to her on the Tuesday preceding her death. Mrs. T. was the second daughter of Simon Welch, one of the earliest settlers in Ionia county, and a man of indefatigable industry, but who ended what might have been a very successful life by his early death in 1861. Mary was an exemplary woman in many respects, and was universally esteemed for her many lovable traits of character. She had been married but little over a year and her sudden death has cut off a career which, surrounded by the comforts and attractions of marital felicity, had only begun to enter upon the real, earnest work of life. Her funeral occurred on Monday, at the residence of her mother, and was attended by about 70 relatives, and a large number of sympathizing neighbors and friends. The sermon was preached by Rev. E. Cooley and the choir from the M. E. church of this city furnished the music. The procession contained about 40 carriages, and was nearly a third of a mile in length. She was buried in the new cemetery, just west of the city.
