Mary Thompson, 76, of Muir, passed away January 24, 2004 in Muskegon.  She was 
born January 2, 1928 in L’Anse the daughter of George and Helen (Eister) 
Penokie.

She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  She was very 
active for many years in Ionia County 4-H and was an Avon dealer for 35 years.  
Mary was very family-oriented.

She is survived by her sons, Nathan and Becky Thompson of Rockford, Pieter and 
Joni Thompson of North Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters, Christina and James Muxlow 
of Lapeer, Andrea and Robert Perri of Muskegon, Cynthia and Michael Harrington 
of Mt. Pleasant, Celeste and Louis Schafer of Lyons; brother, Bernard and 
Virginia Penokie of L’Anse; sisters, Kathryn Bush of St. Clair Shores, Joan and 
Raymond Simpson of Oak Park, Ill.; and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, in 2001; two grandchildren, 
Christopher Schafer in 1986 and Natalie Perri in 1995.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at SS. Peter and 
Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  The family will receive friends and relatives 
Wednesday 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Muir.  Rosary 7 p.m. at the 
funeral home.  Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution to a charity of 
choice.
